This is a special invitation for Dark Angels who have already completed the Advanced Course: join us in the city of dreaming spires as we pursue our continuing quest to bring closer the worlds of creative imagination and business communication.
Why Oxford? In answer to the perennial question 'What next?', we went looking for a place and a programme that would raise the bar further on our already hugely successful Advanced Course. We believe Oxford represents both a complete contrast and an exciting development for the Dark Angels programme.
With Dark Angels we're always after an element of magic, of transformation. Advanced students have experienced something of this from previous encounters. Although magic is impossible to guarantee we believe Oxford and Merton increases the potential.
Our plan is to stretch and stimulate, opening people's eyes to new possibilities and taking their writing to new levels. We want them to feel they have gained a new set of writing wings, exultant and uplifted by the experience.
The Programme A large part of the appeal of Dark Angels courses is that they are journeys into the unknown. What we can say about the Master Class is that we ask people to do some preparatory reading and writing and submit some work in advance for detailed criticism.
The masterclass itself comprises a number of seminars where we discuss submitted work; a few angelic exercises; and a creative project that involves the city of Oxford itself and in which the three of us tutors participate as team members.
We invite a guest writer with a literary association with Oxford to come and read to us on the Thursday evening. This year we are delighted to be joined by Philip Pullman, author of the magisterial
His Dark Materials trilogy and recently The Good Man Jesus and The Scoundrel Christ.
And the result? Well, visit the Album Page and see for yourself what students on the first Masterclass produced, back in 2009.
